If you would rather spend time on the water, Lake Windermere and many of the other lakes offer water sports from rowing through sailing and windsurfing to water-skiing.
The entire area provides walkers of all abilities with a network of paths. A selection of detailed walking routes (along with difficulty level and average walk completion time) are available please ask at reception. If you would prefer to learn about the area (or have a tendency to get lost!) various guided walks are available throughout the year from local information centres. Of course, you could always enjoy afternoon tea in the comfort of the hotel instead!

This isn't just a place to inspire walkers; the Lake District's literary connections include Beatrix Potter, Arthur Ransome, William Wordsworth, John Ruskin, Samuel Coleridge, and Hugh Walpole. The hotel membership of the Historic Houses Association allows free entry to a number of properties. There are also plenty of "honey spots" of the shops in the smaller villages with a large selection of crafts and eateries.
